The KimmyJS19 UK Scanning Directory
Frequencies CD ROM is Compiled
and updated exclusively for and by the kimmyjs19 team, the information
on this CD is for your own use and not authorised to be copied, shared
or sold on to anyone else. There are copies out there selling old and
outdated lists and directories online at places like ebay, we are the original and have
been doing this for over 30 Years. We are a team of radio amateurs and
short wave listeners aged between 16 and 62 who enjoy and take seriously
what we do, and people have copied what we do over the years but we
advise you to be wary purchasing the scanning directory in book form or
other so-called frequency lists on ebay as you'll find most entries
invalid or out of date and simply clones of our directory or outdated
directories where ours is kept fully up to date in a strict manner and
on a daily basis. You can also take confidence in our Positive Feedback
and telephone support line (we answer and do not leave it on answer
phone) on 07743 133632 between 9am - 9pm GMT

Questions and Answers
What are Radio Scanners?
A Radio Scanner is a general radio receiver that covers a large range of the radio spectrum and can store and scan frequencies (channels) and stop on a channel when an active signal is received, therefore you can program a number of frequencies in and set the scanner to 'scan' and it will scan and then stop on active transmissions. Scanners can be bought from places like Maplins or online on ebay second hand from around £30 and upwards, ignore the cheap so called scanners that don't have a digital display as they aren't scanners at all as they don't scan or have squelch control and are pretty useless, the top selling one of these useless unscannable scanners is the 'Omega Multiband Scanner Radio Air Receiver' which is to be avoided at all costs as you'll be surely disappointed. A good range scanner to get will cover 25.000 - 1300.000 Mhz which pretty much covers everything listenable out there, and good reliable names to look out for are Uniden, Realistic, AOR and Yupiteru. ICOM and YAESU Receivers are a little more expensive but worth the extra money for that extra quality receive.
Is Radio Scanning Legal?
No license is required to use, buy or own a radio scanner as long as it is only capable of receiving and not transmitting. Many frequencies such as broadcast and Ham frequencies are legal to listen to, however listening to some are most certainly not. It isn't illegal to own or buy a radio scanner or this scanning directory in the UK. However Ofcom states that it is illegal to listen to anything other than general reception transmissions unless you are either a licensed user of the frequencies in question or have been specifically authorised to do so by a designated person and your not allowed to pass on any details of information or conversations that you may hear on the airwaves.
Why does the phrase KimmyJS19 appear so often in the directory?
KimmyJS19 is the official name of our group maintaining the directory on a day to day basis, there are a few 'other' directories out there online, between us we have tried them all and were sadly disappointed in what we found. Every one was out of date and either old copies of SCANPROMA files or other old files from the internet or even older copies of our very own KimmyJS19 directory ripped off and copied and sold as their own, for this reason we've included our username with most of the entries to deter pirates, all they do is make money from other peoples work selling out of date lists and usually have no interest or even proper knowledge about what they're selling. We however enjoy what we do, and we do it FULL TIME! For example, one directory currently on ebay lists a selling point "H.O. (Fire) mobile, to PBR to 72.7875 single, dual Land Mobile: MoD, to EU1 harmonised Helicopters allowed" as one of his top frequency listings in the main item description, now that is word for word copied from a very old directory listing from years ago, but worse of all, those frequencies have all been replaced now anyway by Tetra Airwave and out of date
Can I still listen to The POLICE in The UK?
Only in a limited way. All UK Police forces now use TETRA Airwave, a digital encrypted system, it can be heard on scanners but only as noise, the Fire Service and Ambulance Service also use TETRA, as yet there's no scanner available with the ability to listen to TETRA and there isn't likely to be one in the future either. It's not all bad news though, you'll hear the POLICE often on your local Shopwatch, CCTV, and Storenet and Pubwatch radio schemes as listed in the KimmyJS19 directory, you can locate your city in the Town's and Cities files section and search through all your local users or the main database which covers it all. There are also some very limited use by Police for their own communications with new frequencies being allocated often. Police aside, more and more new users are using radio systems for communications and the bands are alive with so many varied and interesting things to listen to, from shoplifting squads to security, military, hospitals, prisons, telephones, surveillance, search and rescue and more. Although Fire controls have migrated to TETRA Firefighters still use analogue hand helds so you can still hear them at the scene of incidents
Personalised Scanning Directories?
Our Personalised Scanning Directories are based on your postcode (please let us know if you require the directory to cover another postcode.) The frequencies are exclusively of the local surrounding area of your postcode, and we retrieve these frequencies through a number of our verified sources including government, personal freinds and contacts and our own records and logs. The frequencies will be completely up to date, even brand new frequencies only allocated a day or two ago are available to us. Please ask us about this service here as this is a seperate personal service.
